If you were injured at work, or became ill because of your work, in Western Australia, WorkCover WA regulates the scheme and your employer's insurer handles the claim. These are the steps and time limits from the official sources.
What to do, step by step
- Report the injury to your employer.
- Get a First Certificate of Capacity from a doctor and fill in the Workers Compensation Claim Form. Give both to your employer, who has 7 days to send them to the insurer. The insurer then has 14 days to respond (WorkCover WA).
- Do it as soon as practicable, within 12 months of being injured (Legal Aid WA).
Injured on the way to or from work?
In WA, WorkCover WA says travel between your home and your workplace is generally not covered. The exceptions include travel your employer instructs, travel for education and travel to treatment.
