Administrative Review Tribunal Application (ART, formerly AAT)

An Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) application is the formal document by which a person seeks merits review of a Commonwealth government decision — covering decisions by Centrelink, the NDIS, immigration (visas), the ATO, veterans' entitlements, and dozens of other federal agencies. The ART replaced the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) in October 2024 and is governed by the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024.

Why this document matters

For most Commonwealth agency decisions, the ART is the only merits-review pathway between the original decision and the Federal Court. Missing the application deadline (typically 28 days) usually means the decision becomes final.

How Claim Done can help

ART applications are specialist Commonwealth-administrative-law work, distinct from the state civil tribunals (NCAT, VCAT, QCAT) we handle. Claim Done’s Tribunal Application product is for state civil tribunals, not the federal ART. For ART applications, consider a community legal centre (free for many matters), Legal Aid (income-tested), or a specialist administrative-law firm. For matters that DO sit within state-tribunal jurisdiction (consumer claims, tenancy, debt recovery), our Tribunal Application ($79) service drafts the full application package.
